Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth sales faced a 90% decrease

According to a new report, sales of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in Japan have dropped to 24,482 copies within one week.
Famitsu magazine reported in its latest report a 90% decrease in sales of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in Japan, reaching 24,482 copies sold from March 14th to March 20th. Total sales for the game in its second week of release amounted to 287,138 copies, compared to 262,656 copies sold in the first week.
Despite overwhelmingly positive feedback from critics and fans alike for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, this statistic may come as a shock to players. This figure is in line with sales of previous releases in the series in Japan. The game, released on February 29th for the PlayStation 5, is currently being hailed as a "Metacritic recommended" title. Additionally, the demo version of Rebirth, provided to users in early February, received numerous positive reviews.
Game director Yoshinori Kitase attributed the success of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to its exclusive release on the PlayStation 5. He claimed that the nature of the system's architecture allows for more comprehensive development, otherwise, the game's design could have "taken a big step backward."

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second installment in this series trilogy, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake from 2020 having garnered acclaim from many critics. In other news, it was announced that the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 is in its "final stages" of improvement. Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida claimed that the showcase release is "not far off" and will be available to the public in less than a year. Final Fantasy 16 was released in June 2023 for the PlayStation 5.
Last month, Square Enix announced its plans to make new and general changes to its various business development processes. Takashi Kiriyo claimed that these changes will be revealed in the spring of 2024; reports and other news suggest that these changes will be announced in April.
