The former members of Naughty Dog and Microsoft Studios have founded a new game studio


Former members of id Software, Naughty Dog, and others are working on a major project while founding an empty studio.
In recent months, many individuals have been establishing their own independent AAA studios by breaking away from major game companies, and Emptyvessel is one of them. The studio comprises former members of id Software, Activision, Naughty Dog, Crystal Dynamics, Striking Distance Studios, Illfonic, and many others.
Emmanuel Palalic, previously involved in projects like DOOM, DOOM Eternal, Killing Floor 3, among others, serves as CEO and director at Empty Vessel Studio; while Garrett Young, with experience at companies like Microsoft, Activision, Disney, and ID Software, oversees studio management. Mick Gordon, known for his work on Doom and Doom Eternal, will also serve as a composer at this studio.
Palalic stated the reason for founding the studio: "Many developers, like myself, started with a dream of creating our own world." We believe that by focusing on our strengths and aligning them, we can develop high-quality AAA titles with a smaller team. The video game industry has repeatedly overlooked the active individuals in this field who dedicate their efforts to creating different worlds; at Empty Vessel, we intend to change that narrative so we can achieve this dream for creators.
Young commented on the process at Empty Vessel Studios: "Our industry lies at the intersection of business and talent." At Empty Vessel, we will have a developer-first approach to direction and execution. We understand that every innovation in the industry is shaped through the risks creators take to create a new IP or the next installment of a million-dollar franchise. "The next big thing for this industry could be anything."
The studio announced on the X Virtual Network or former Twitter site that it is developing an "immersive shooter game" called The System; this work will be executed using Unreal Engine 5.
